Mastering Your Cleaning Routine

Two Things to Consider Before You Begin Using Office Cleaning Services

by Yolanda Watts

Here are two things you'll need to consider if you're going to use an office cleaning service.

What time the cleaners should come at

You'll need to consider what time of day you'd like to have the office cleaned. If for example, your office employees routinely call up clients or suppliers during their workdays, then you might need to have the cleaners come before the office opens or after it closes, as the noise they will have to make when vacuuming, emptying the office bins and mopping the floors might make it hard for your employees to hear what the people they're speaking to are saying.

In contrast, if your office gets very messy over the course of the day and is often a total disaster by the afternoon, and you would like it to be cleaner when your clients visit during the day, then it might be sensible to have the cleaners come in and do some cleaning around lunchtime, and then have them do an additional shift in the evening. This should ensure that the office never becomes unreasonably unclean, and you won't have to worry about clients who pop by later in the day being appalled by the state of your premises.

How often you need your office cleaned

You'll need to think about how often your office needs to be cleaned. As a general rule of thumb, small offices that don't have many visitors only need to be cleaned once a day or once every two days, whilst larger offices which employ several dozen people and which have clients and suppliers coming and going all the time will need to be cleaned a couple of times per day.

If you're not sure how frequently the office cleaners should clean your premises, you should try having them do one shift per day for a week or two, and see if you're happy with the overall cleanliness of the office during this period. If, after doing this, you notice that the cleaners often have very little left to do other than to dust the already-clean surfaces, then you can scale back and have them come every second day. Conversely, if they are struggling to get all of the cleaning work done during their shifts and the office still isn't as clean as you'd like it to be, you may need to have them start doing two cleaning shifts per day.
