Mastering Your Cleaning Routine

Two tips for people who need to use a floor scrubber to clean their property's floors

by Yolanda Watts

If your property's floors are extremely dirty and the property itself is large, then the quickest way to get them clean would be to use a floor scrubber. Here are two pieces of advice you should heed if you choose to use this equipment.

Get a cleaner to operate the floor scrubber unless you're strong and experienced

You can rent floor scrubbers from cleaning companies. However, unless you have already used a floor scrubber and have strong arms, it might be better to have one of the cleaning company's employees use this equipment on your floors for you.

This equipment can make the grimiest of floors absolutely spotless because it is very powerful; its bristles can move very quickly and forcefully across the floor. As such, you need strong arms and a good grip to direct the scrubber to the spots you need to clean and to pull it away from objects that you don't want it to hit. Additionally, it takes a practised hand to use this equipment to remove dirt from the hard-to-reach corners or the crevices near the skirting boards.

As such, if you're not known for your physical strength and have never operated a floor scrubber before, you may be left with sore arms and a floor that is not quite as clean as you wanted it to be if you try to use it yourself. In these circumstances, a strong professional cleaner would likely achieve a much better result with this equipment.

Prep the walls beforehand

Whether you decide to utilise a cleaner's expertise or use the scrubbing equipment yourself, you'll need to prep your walls. The bristles of the scrubber will move extremely quickly as the equipment is slid across the floor. When used in conjunction with water and a detergent, the bristles will cause some suds and water droplets to splatter onto the walls.

These splashes can easily be wiped off the wall surfaces themselves; however, it's sensible to tape a small plastic sheet over any light switches, electrical sockets or wall-mounted television screens to ensure that these droplets and suds don't land on these items and make them short circuit. Additionally, if there are wall decorations (such as wall planters, bunting, etc.) that you think detergent or water could damage, you should remove or cover these as well. Lastly, you may want to roll up any curtains you have hanging nearby so their lower sections do not get wet.

Keep these things in mind if you want to use a floor scrubber
